I've been MIA for about two weeks now...and I've been equally remiss in blogging about the life of Team Sisenshelly. Since that is the whole purpose of the blog, I thought I'd spend some time recapping our....
Adventures in Lancaster!
Jeff and I have a habit of frequenting the PA capital (Harrisburg) more regularly than we do my Central PA favorite (Lancaster, of course). I'm not sure why, as both are equidistant to our humble abode, but it occurred to me recently that we've been snubbing good old Lancaster. As of late, I've been missing it, with its mix of the old and new and its artsy, creative, and charmingly-bohemian atmosphere.
1. City-Pics: Our October Engagement Session:
Margarita, our amazing photographer, caught up with us in Lancaster last October. I love the city architecture. What a blast! Here are a few glimpses of what Lancaster has to offer!
2. First Friday, 10/1/10
First Friday is sponsored by the local art scene in Lancaster; art galleries, coffee shops, advertising firms, and anything in between stay open late on the first Friday of every month (aptly named, therefore!), and flocks of people swarm into them, looking at and appreciating the local art flavor for which Lancaster has recently become known.
Before this month, we'd never been downtown for this occasion. I have been harping on Jeff to "think outside the box." I've grown tired of our Friday-night same-old-same-old practices, and have been relishing the thought of new life being breathed into our two-person family. Jeff listens so well (when he knows I really want something); it's one of the things I love most about him. The little gestures really add up--and this has quickly become one of my favorite moments with him. There's something so romantic about walking around the city at night, looking at art, stealing glances and quick kisses when no one is around to see... And truthfully, there's just something about experiencing something new with the man I love.
3. Pottery Painting at TPW
Jeff had to work at four a.m. last Friday (his schedule changes, sometimes on a weekly basis). On these really early days, sometimes it's hard to convince him to head out for a night on the town...not so this night!! Although Jeff was visibly tired, and despite my insistance that we didn't have to go out, he was raring and ready to go...or as "raring" as one can be after waking up at three a.m. Jeff is my perpetual night owl, and I'm pretty sure he hadn't had more than a few hours of sleep that previous night. This small-but-important gesture lets me know 100% how committed Jeff is to making me happy; I don't think that pottery painting is his number one activity of choice on any day, let alone after an early a.m. at "the office." He pushed through any fatigue left over and we had such a great night; he picked out some salt and pepper shakers for our kitchen, and I loved the way he threw himself into the project. Small though they were, these salt and pepper shakers will be the cornerstones of our kitchen. Made with love, devotion, and a sleepy twitch of the eye. What a guy.
(Picture soon to follow...we pick up our pottery pieces tonight!)
